Tom Petty’s Final Words to Fans Were Something of a Miracle

The iconic singer capped off his 40th anniversary tour with the most fitting goodbye.

No matter how you look at it, Tom Petty‘s death is a great loss, but the way he ended the last concert in his 40th anniversary tour just one week prior may offer fans some solace.

To conclude Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ final tour appearance at the Hollywood Bowl, the 66-year-old thanked fans for making the trip. What he said afterward now means everything:

“We love you dearly. I want to thank you for 40 years of a really great time. We’re almost out of time. We got time for this, right here.”

During the concert, Petty sang “Free Fallin’,” “You Wreck Me,” and “American Girl,” according to Slate.

Petty died on October 2, 2017 after suffering cardiac arrest.

The 66-year-old was discovered unconscious at his home in Malibu, CA, and was sent to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital for treatment.

He was briefly put on life support before his family was informed he had no brain activity, and chose to let the legend go peacefully.

RIP Tom Petty.
