Weinstein Co. CEO Bob Weinstein is denying that his company is being put up for sale or being shut down amidst the wave of sexual assault claims made against ousted co-chairman Harvey Weinstein.
“Our banks, partners and shareholders are fully supportive of our company and it is untrue that the company or board is exploring a sale or shutdown of the company,” Bob Weinstein said in a statement.
Weinstein touts TWC’s upcoming releases, saying the company still plans to release Polaroid, Paddington 2 and the Robert De Niro comedy War with Grandpa on their previously announced dates.
A movie that is not mentioned in Weinstein’s statement is The Current War, the upcoming Thomas Edison-George Westinghouse period drama that stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon.
On Tuesday, after The New Yorker published its report that detailed three rape allegations against the movie mogul, Cumberbatch released a statement that said: “I am utterly disgusted by the continuing revelations of Harvey Weinstein’s horrifying and unforgivable actions.”
The Alfonso Gomez-Rejon-directed feature is set for release Nov. 24 and was believed to be one of TWC’s possible awards contenders, along with Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River.
There have been reports that TWC could delay release of the movie, pushing it to 2018 and out of awards contention.
Rather, Weinstein’s statement cites the upcoming films Polaroid, a horror film to be released by TWC’s Dimension label, which he oversees; the family film Paddington 2, which has been slated as a TWC release; and the comedy The War with Grandpa, which is also to be released under the Dimension banner.

Our banks, partners and shareholders are fully supportive of our company and it is untrue that the company or board is exploring a sale or shutdown of the company. Polaroid is moving forward as planned with a release date of November 22 followed by Paddington 2 on January 12. The first Paddington grossed over $75 million and we expect even greater success for Paddington 2. Test screening scores are through the roof. War with Grandpa starring Robert De Niro is scheduled for February 23, 2018. Business is continuing as usual as the company moves ahead.
