Frances McDormand‘s night was rudely interrupted when a man stole her Oscar for Best Actress right off of her table at the Governors Ball.
The suspect, Terry Bryant, had a ticket to the after party and was decked out in a tux. Apparently, Bryant snatched the statuette off of McDormand’s table in the Ray Dolby Ballroom and proceeded to strut around as if it was his own.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Bryant tells the camera the Oscar is his “baby.”
He then asks the mingling crowd, “Who wants to tell me ‘congratulations?'” which is quickly followed by a chorus of congrats from nearby attendees. At one point he even asks if anyone wants to hold the statue.
When she noticed her Oscar had gone missing, McDormand informed event security.
The Facebook video was posted at 11:30 p.m., and, according to TMZ, by 11:50 p.m. Bryant had been arrested for felony grand theft. The Oscar was quickly reunited with his rightful owner.
Following the mini kidnapping, McDormand’s rep said, “Fran and Oscar are happily reunited and are enjoying an In-N-Out Burger together.”
Good, because I have a feeling Frances McDormand isn’t someone to f**k with.
