It looks like Star Wars is going to be in our lives forever.
With The Last Jedi, a Han Solo spin-off, and Episode IX already slated, fans now have another awesome anthology movie to look forward to.
On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Lucasfilm is in early talks with Oscar-winning director Stephen Daldry to helm a standalone film centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hell yes, but also — of course they’re making a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film.
Now before you go busting out your lightsabers and getting your hopes up, we’d like to stress that the project is in early stages of development, and has no script. However, EW notes that if the deal goes through, the film will take place between events covered in Revenge of the Sith and 1977’s original Star Wars.
With regards to casting, that’s also a big question mark. Obi-Wan Kenobi was played by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy, and Ewan McGregor in the prequels. However, McGregor has expressed in countless interviews that he’d be more than willing to reprise his role if given the opportunity. It looks like this could be it.
But there’s more. The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that two other fan-favorites will also get their time to shine: “Lucasfilm is also considering pics centering on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett, among other characters.”
Star Wars forever. Please, shut up and take my money now.
Are you excited for a film focusing on the Jedi Master? How do you think Lucasfilm should explore Obi-Wan Kenobi’s backstory? Also, who should play him? We’re Ewan McGregor all the way.
