Australian Harry Potter fans will be wanting to jump off their broomsticks with news J.K. Rowling “unlikely” to attend the opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play in Melbourne this week.

Earlier in the year, fans were left on the edge of their seats as J.K. Rowling teased Aussie audiences she was excited [for the play] to be coming to Melbourne, and until now hoped the queen of the Harry Potter series would be making her way down under to catch a glimpse of her after previously making appearances in London and New York.

The highly anticipated play will see Gareth Reeves star as Harry Potter, Gyton Grantley as Ron Wasley, Paula Arundell as Hermione Granger. The play also stars Lucy Goleby (Ginny Weasley), Tom Wren (Draco Malfoy), Sean Rees-Wemyss (Albus Severus Potter) and Manali Datar (Scorpius Malfoy).

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two-part West End stage play written by Jack Thorne based on an original new story by Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany.

Many local Australian celebrities and reality TV stars are expected.
