Avicii’s Family Implies The Late DJ Committed Suicide

“He could not go on any longer.”

Avicii

It’s been a week since the news broke that Swedish EDM DJ Tim Bergling – who performed under the stage name Avicii – passed away. A new statement released by Bergling’s family suggests the DJ died of an apparent suicide.

The statement, which has been translated from Swedish, reads in full:

Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.

He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace.

Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.

We love you,
Your family

The 28-year-old DJ was found in his hotel room in Oman on April 20. It should be noted that following two post-mortem examinations authorities did not suspect any foul play.

Before retiring from performing in 2016 due to health complications, Avicii repeatedly made Forbes‘ list of “Highest-Paid Dj’s. He came in at number three in 2014. His 2013 hit, “Wake Me Up,” which featured soul singer Aloe Blacc, peaked at number four on the Hot 100.
