It’s time to meet the new Kermit… Well, sort of.
Matt Vogel, the new voice of Kermit the Frog, quietly gave his debut performance as the new voice of the iconic green puppet in the latest edition of “Muppet Thought of the Week.” Check out the adorable clip below, and see if you can hear any differences between the “old” and “new” Kermit.
In July, the Muppets Studio announced that Vogel was replacing longtime puppeteer Steven Whitmire, who had voiced the character for 27 years. The situation intensified after Whitmire revealed in a blog post that he had been fired for being “too outspoken.”
Whitmire wrote: “I feel that I am at the top of my game, and I want all of you who love the Muppets to know that I would never consider abandoning Kermit or any of the others because to do so would be to forsake the assignment entrusted to me by Jim Henson, my friend and mentor, but even more, my hero.”
Muppets Studio later responded with their own statement saying Whitmire had been fired due to “unacceptable business conduct.” The state read: “The Muppets Studio thanks Steve for his tremendous contributions to Kermit the Frog and The Muppets franchise. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
