“It’s a shitty moment when you know you’re wrong, and there’s no excuses for your wrong behavior.”
It’s a rough day in the Hart household following comedian Kevin Hart‘s public apology. On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Ride Along star shared an earnest video explaining that instead of succumbing to extortion, he was “coming clean” about his recent mistakes. While Hart didn’t detail his transgressions in the video, TMZ reports he was being blackmailed by someone who possessed sexually suggestive footage of the star.
“I’m at a place in my life where I feel like I have a target on my back,” Hart started off, “and because of that, I should make smart decisions, and recently, I didn’t. You know, I’m not perfect. I’m not going to sit here and say that I am or claim to be in any way, shape, or form. I made a bad error in judgment and put myself in an environment where bad things can happen, and they did. In doing that, I know I’m going to hurt the people closest to me, who I have talked to and apologized to, being my wife and my kids.
“It’s a shitty moment,” he continued. “It’s a shitty moment when you know you’re wrong, and there’s no excuses for your wrong behavior. At the end of the day, man, I just simply gotta’ do better. But I’m not gonna also allow a person to have financial gain over my mistakes. That’s the situation, that’s what was attempted. I’m gonna ‘fess up to my mistakes.”
Since the video went live around 5 p.m. PST, it has amassed over one million views, many fans offering words of support while others condemned Hart for his actions.
“How r u gunna do that to ur pregnant wife kevin r u serious this is exactly why i cant trust men shame on u,” commented one fan.
“Stay strong brother. Praying for you and your family that you may heal through the power of love and bounce back even stronger,” wrote another.
According to TMZ, an unidentified racketeer asked Hart for money in exchange for a tape that allegedly depicts him engaged in “sexually suggestive” behavior. While the tape is not a traditional celebrity “sex tape,” it is described as a “prelude” to the act.
“Someone tried to set Kevin up in a failed extortion attempt,” a rep for Hart told the site. “As law enforcement is involved, we cannot comment further as it could affect the investigation.”
Hart married wife Eniko Parrish Hart in August 2016. Parrish Hart is currently 31 weeks pregnant with the couple’s first child. The star has 12-year-old Heaven and nine-year-old Hendrix from a previous marriage.
Our thoughts are with them at this time.
UPDATE: Miami-based singer/model Monique “MoMo” Gonzalez posted an image with the caption “The truth always comes to light” on Saturday before Hart’s video went live.
Gonzalez is known for collaborating with popular singer Pitbull, and was spotted in Miami with Hart earlier in the summer.
